In many countries of Central and Eastern Europe and Eurasia, an emphasis has been placed on healthcare reform and governments are empowering municipalities and individuals to assume greater responsibility for individual and community health.

Through its Healthy Communities partnerships, Community Leadership Development Program, and other initiatives, AIHA and its partners have been at the forefront in advancing the Healthy Communities process in Croatia, Hungary, Latvia, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan.
